Tips from Old Millrat - James D. Thompson

Making a Files Till

I have been threatening to make a file till for a long time now, and today was the day. I've had the idea for a while, and today I dug up enough scrap to make one. And several galoots have asked me to show what I finally come up with.

I thought that this till would be plenty big enough for all my files, but I was wrong. I think I may remove all the rasps and put them in a separate till, made in the same design as this one.

Another thing I have learned is that I will need a color code system on the end of the handles for identifying the files. Something like black for a flat rasp, and then black and white for a half round rasp.  Red for a flat bastard, then red and white for a half round bastard, and so on with the white addition always indicating a half round.

Right now I only know that the biggest files are in the back. But this is huge improvement over what I had before, a small till and lots of files lying everywhere for want of a home.  I still have a number of files that don't have handles. Project for rainy days.
